The EYM Project is thrilled to announce the release of its latest original song and music video, featuring Mi’kmaq rapper Devon Paul and Mi’kmaq singer-songwriter Emma Stevens, alongside youth choirs from Canada and Lviv, Ukraine. This project represents the power of music to connect young people across cultures and continents, creating something meaningful and memorable together.

The song, “We Are the Love,” was written collaboratively by EYM Project founder Carter Chiasson, Devon Paul, and EYM Project collaborator Russell Sullivan. Its creation grew organically out of relationships Carter has nurtured over the years—both with artists like Devon Paul, whose collaboration with Carter stretches back nearly a decade, and with educators around the world who share a commitment to empowering youth through music.
One of the most special aspects of this project is its international collaboration. Carter worked remotely with Yaroslava Yadlos, a teacher in the Foreign Languages Department at Lviv Linguistic Gymnasium in Lviv, Ukraine he met through the UNESCO Schools Network, to teach the Ukrainian youth choir the song and guide them in recording their parts. At the same time, Canadian youth from Riverside School in Cape Breton, under the guidance of teacher Jennie McKibbon, contributed their voices to the recording. These choirs’ contributions reflect both the skill and the enthusiasm of the young musicians who participated, uniting their voices across borders.

The collaboration with Devon Paul has deep roots. He was previously featured on a project Carter produced for the National Arts Centre of Canada called Gentle Warrior, where his artistry as a rapper brought the project to life. Partnering with Emma Stevens adds another layer of richness, blending Indigenous perspectives, storytelling, and artistry with the youth voices from Canada and Ukraine.

“We Are the Love” is more than just a song—it’s a celebration of cross-cultural connection, artistic mentorship, and the transformative power of music. Through projects like this, the EYM Project continues its mission of empowering youth to find their voice, embrace creativity, and build bridges through shared artistic experiences.
The music video, now live, captures the energy, dedication, and joy of everyone involved—professional artists and young performers alike—and stands as a testament to what can happen when communities, countries, and cultures come together through music.
